The Columbiettes are a national organization of Catholic women comprised of auxiliaries affiliated with the Knights of Columbus Councils. The individual auxiliaries are dedicated to promoting the spiritual, social, and charitable welfare of their members and the communities in which they reside.
The St. Patrick Columbiettes was formed on August 7, 2021. We became the 21st axiliary in the country, and we established the first Michigan auxiliary in history. In our first year of organization, we have grown to over 65 members and counting. Our auxiliary has participated in many activities and events. At first, we started out by observing the Knights, and looking for opportunities to lend a helping hand, but soon we found our footing and hosted our own initiatives.
We supported the Knights of Columbus with their annual Magic Bus Fall Concert by hosting a VIP room for guests to mingle with the band and get a little snack before the main event. We were also on hand from start to finish helping where needed.
During their Amazing Parish Picnic, our Columbiettes donated all of the desserts and several of us helped prepare and serve food. We had a great turnout with many of us in attendance together.
You could always find women of the parish helping at the annual Fish Fry, in the year 2021 many of them became the first Columbiettes, and now we are officially teaming up with the Knights to serve our desserts and pizza to the community.
We have found another great way to help the community through volunteering our time and donating items to DRAW. In light of several floods this year and the devastating Hurricane Ian, we will be vamping up our efforts for this worthy cause. Disaster Relief at Work (DRAW) collects supplies and plarn to make plastic bags for flood victims to utilize. More information can be found on our Facebook page.
During the Christmas season, we hosted the annual Advent Tea, participated in Operation Good Cheer, wrapped presents with the Knights, and adopted a local family. Beyond that, we proudly support and assist the Lakes Area Right to Life with their annual Spaghetti Dinner. This Spring we hosted our very own Treasures in the Trunk event which is a community sale. It was a wonderful success, and we are already in the planning stages of our next one.
We participated in a beautiful May Crowning event where we honored the Blessed Virgin Mary. This is all just the beginning for us, we are planning many great events, parties, and activities for the year 2023. Some of these include: A Living Rosary, hosting a fellowship after First Friday Adoration, a dinner demonstration with a trained chef, a Kentucky Derby Party, and Father's Day event.
